The first of two championship rounds in two days for the Top Fuel competitors at Sydney Dragway’s Australia Day Nationals has seen Peter Xiberras take on Phil Lamattina in the B-Final for a spectacular side-by-side three second show that had the crowd on their feet
Browsing: Drag Racing
This Friday and Saturday (January 26 and 27), PremiAir Racing will do all it can to open its 2024 in the best way possible – by taking home event-winning NDRC Christmas Tree trophies –at Sydney Dragway’s Australia Day Nationals.
Six new ANDRA national records have been recorded between the recent South Coast 660 and Festival State Nationals events, held at South Coast Raceway (January 6-7) and Dragway at The Bend (January 13-14) respectively.
The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) is pleased to announce that Patricia (Trish) Crossin AM has been elected as an Independent Director of the ANDRA Board.
There is no doubt 2023 brought plenty of progress for the Gold Coast based team, and team boss Peter Xiberras is laser-focused on ensuring there is plenty more to come across the coming 12 months
This Maloo is on a different level, not only does it have a presence few other cars can achieve sitting still – the powerplant hidden under that factory bonnet is enough to make your eyes water!
511 Cubes of Brad Anderson Hemi goodness straight out of a Blown Doorslammer and fed with Two Huge 94mm Precision Gen 1 Turbo’s drinking Methanol this car was always destined to go fast – really fast!
Another huge power car that came down to make the most of the time spent prepping the track to give the Radial boys what they had been wanting and asking for.
The RPM Parts and Performance Team along with Audio Image, ADR Engines and KarKulture Motorsport definitely made the most of the couple of days track hire, and while we weren’t able to get a clean pass on Day One they definitely made up for it on Day Two with an absolute ripper of a run once the track really started to come on!
The guys are already prepping the car to head East again for Midnight Mayhem and this test day was a solid chance to get the car all dialled and ready for that!
If you haven’t seen the behind the scenes documentary on what went into the track for the upcoming days prior to this event go and have a look!
The prep video has been months in the making – with alot of thought, effort and preparation behind the scenes (and we mean ALOT) to make this a truly unique and educational watch for anyone interested in learning just what it takes to turn a track from ‘ok’ to ‘elite’!
Seeing some of the W.A Radial Cars finally get the track they’ve been dreaming of here at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia was a huge deal, and it’s definitely only just the beginning now that we’ve seen what is actually capable.

The man behind this car is one of the nicest, genuine, most humble and whatever the opposite of wanting to be in the limelight, quiet achiever you will probably meet… But strap him into the Mustang and he even surprises himself, with Jeff behind the tune the car just seems to respond every single time a change is made and just continues to exceed everyone’s expectations on what is actually capable from such a simple and somewhat sensible budget build. It has surpassed expectation that many times now it’s almost like every single time the car makes a pass nobody even knows what to expect anymore.
We would have to go through a fair amount of footage to actually find a pass that the Mustang managed to blow the tyres off the hit (running a smaller wheel combo than just about every other car at the track too) but this hasn’t stopped the Mustang which continues to hook pretty much all day everyday no matter what Jeff does to the tune, the car just goes!
If you want to see what is possible from this super simple combo, some seriously good workmanship and an extremely talented driver and tuner then look no further than this unassuming SN95. It doesn’t stand out in the crowd with a huge amount of radical parts hanging out of the bonnet, or wild bodykit’s and aero, or even huge radial tyres tucked under the rear… But it doesn’t need to, because this car does ALL of the talking out on the track!
We are always keen to see what other tricks Lundy and Jeff can pull out of the hat with this one, and can’t wait to have more of it on the channel.

The man of the hour, Lorenzo was one of the key people behind getting everything organised and in place to get our track prepped and turned into the best surface we’ve ever had at the Motorplex.
Lorenzo also pilots this weapon of a Mustang, and if you have watched our channel for a while you’ll be very familiar with this one!
The aim of the game for the weekend was getting the car prepped and ready for the upcoming Kenda event in Sydney so they were heavily testing the short track, the car took some time to get settled but they ended up getting it all worked out… Unfortunately the upper valvetrain had different ideas and brought everything to an abrupt halt early on the Second Day of testing – which was a shame as Day Two was really when the track started to come on!
Again, a huge credit to Lorenzo, the Gullotto family and the DS Racing team for a proper weapon of a car that has been finished to the absolute highest degree. And personally to Lorenzo for firstly coming up with the idea to get this track prepped and also for getting me onboard to be a part of the whole thing and being given an opportunity to put a killer video together on the whole event.
The Foxbody also still holds the number one spot for the fastest radial car in Western Australia!

The Oosterwaals and the Camaro in all the years we’ve watched this car, this was the track they had been waiting for…. The perfect opportunity to roll the car off the trailer and get it down the track on the power level they (and the car) love to run at, which is essentially all of it, immediately!
No surprises in that the car was pretty much on kill as it is every other time the boys roll it out from under the bridge at our track, the huge power LS tested the waters quickly with the track taking a little while to get those layers of fresh rubber down but once that foundation was there it was set for an absolute ripper of a pass. To see the car finally get out past the 60ft, and continue through the 330ft markers with the boost still ramping in and the front wheels in the air as the power was coming in was something we had waited on for a very long time! Unfortunately with all of the stars aligned and everything where it needed to be the boys were met with one small issue which brought their weekend to a grinding halt, the LSX Block had split a bore during that absolute belter of a pass which led to an early shut off, lucky it was picked up in the staging lanes when the Camaro came back around for another go – so the car lives to fight another day and we have no doubt it will smash it’s 7 second PB in no time judging by that pass to be!
You might have also seen in the Radial Prep Video (go and watch that if you haven’t already) but the boys were that keen to help get the track we all wanted that they came down on the Friday night and also jumped on the tools and put in the hard yards to help scrape all of the old rubber and build up off the track ready for the new surface to go down.
As we’ve said before, this car is one of the angriest sounding cars on the channel and is definitely one you need to hear from the top end, turn it up and enjoy!

This particular VL is no stranger to our Channel, featuring many times in previous radial round and private track hires (with previous owner Jarred), the VL is now in the hot hands of new owner Nigel and he definitely had his hands full getting this no joke radial car down the track on our freshly prepped surface!
A big weekend starting with the Friday where the car was overpowering the track early on, to the point that it got so out of shape it provided us with possibly the best save of any car we have ever seen on the Channel!
The quick reaction of Nigel led to a pretty spectacular moment, you can watch and find out exactly how it panned out!
After that the car was packed away in the pits for the day before things really got out of hand, Nigel was back out on the Saturday with the track having more rubber down and a tonne more bite and really got to work in the VL…. On the final pass which was an absolute cracker he certainly found himself some new aero mods by the time he crossed the line! (You can go and watch and find out about that one also, not going to give it away!!).
The Boosted 388ci is an absolute weapon, and we’ve seen the car deep into the 7’s before so it won’t be long until Nigel is pushing that even further as the car has everything it needs to really push the current PB’s!
Looking forward to more of the Shields Garage VL on the Channel very soon!
