The Kaizen Award – a key honour within the TGRA GR Cup and 86 Scholarship Series – recognises competitors who demonstrate continuous improvement, resilience, and a commitment to excellence on and off the track. It reflects Toyota’s Kaizen philosophy, celebrating those who continually elevate their performance, character, and contribution to the sport.
Davey, who proudly represents his Martu and Manyjilyjarra heritage, began racing dirt karts at eight years old before progressing into bitumen karting, ultimately winning the 2023 Western Australian Karting Championship. He moved to Queensland in late 2023 to join Racing Together, Australia’s first dedicated motorsport pathway program for Indigenous youth. The program provides structured opportunities across all areas of the sport — from driving and engineering to mechanical and operational roles — and places strong emphasis on mentorship, life skills, and long-term career development.
Since joining the program, Davey has competed in Excels, the Toyota 86 Scholarship Series and the GR Cup, emerging this year as one of the championship’s standout young talents. His third place in the 2025 TGRA Scholarship Series marked a historic milestone, making him the first Indigenous driver to finish in the top three of a Motorsport Australia national championship or series. Across the season he collected eight podiums, combining speed with a consistently mature approach both in and out of the car.
Davey received the Kaizen Award from Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations, during Sunday night’s Toyota 86 end-of-season celebration in Melbourne.
“Kade is an outstanding young talent with great potential,” Hanley said. “The Kaizen Award represents more than just performance and results on track. It’s about the pursuit of continuous improvement in all areas — how you carry yourself, treat others, and respond when things don’t go to plan.”
Humbled by the recognition, Davey said the honour came as a surprise.
“I certainly wasn’t expecting this, but it’s really cool to win such a prestigious award from such a prestigious brand,” he said. “It’s a great honour, and I recognise that with the Kaizen Award comes a responsibility to continue upholding the values it represents.”
As part of the accolade, Davey will travel to France as Toyota’s guest at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, held from 10–14 June — an experience that will further strengthen his development pathway within the Racing Together program and the broader motorsport community.
