At a steady pace behind the Safety Car, the second BEERS 24 hour event started at Carco.com.au Raceway, at 3pm June 13 2025.
Initially racing on a slightly damp track, with more cloud-laden moisture threatening to really make things tricky later on, (it didn’t), 39 teams started with more than 30 finishing the event, 24 hours later.
Diff replacements, brake-system changes, engine swaps, 4 turbos installed (and all failed) amongst some of the challenges – all teams worked hard to overcome their plights to make it to the end.
Some though had catastrophes, no matter what their pluck was; drive-wheel splines separating, heads blowing, mystery fires (5!) as well as on track-action, which caused the Civic of team Surprise Wallaby, to hit the wall backwards turning the sedan “into a hatchback”.
While BEERs is based around budget racing, (Budget Extreme Endurance Racing), no money was missed when it came to safety gear and systems; rollcages, extinguishers, HANS devices, minimum 4-person teams, separate refueling area – full safety inside and out of the cars.
It wasn’t just hot (and cold) in the pits, either, as the canteen was operating, (I think non-stop?) delivering hot meals and drinks on request.
Were people exhausted during the day and a half? Oh heck yes, but with plenty of laughter, and support as well. There was plenty of action on the track during the course of the event too. (except for the 1.5hours? of Red Flag during Civic recovery and medical support – all was good btw!). So much so that the fastest lap of the event was set, I think, around hour 16, with a 1:06.2128, by BrokeBank Motorsport.
As impressive as that was, they were not able to match the consistency of Shake’n’Bake who took lap honours, completing 951 circuits; 22 more than Egotec who themselves were only 1 lap ahead of Pagani Honda.
But don’t take my word for it, some of these images may help too.
For me, I look forward to thenext 24 hour event.
