Big season ahead for Billy O’Donoghue in speedway Modified Sedans

Published: Thursday October 30 2025

After spending his early Speedway racing career in local sedan competition in the north-east, Corowa businessman Billy O’Donoghue will this season step into one of the national scenes most popular classes, the Modified Sedans and test himself out against Victoria’s best including current Victorian champion Numurkah ace Tristan McGraw and possibly venture interstate and to go up against the nations toughest scene up north.

During this past offseason with the help of Justin McGraw and Trevor Mills, O’Donoghue and his crew spent time on some critical conversions and set up changes to his race car to allow him to step out in the early races this season in the Victorian Modified Sedan’s state series with confidence that the car is ready to go.

A test session already under the belt at the Wangaratta Speedway where Billy has taken up membership and registration this season, showed the team that the driver and car combination is fast. “We recently joined the Wangaratta club for various reasons along with the fact that for us it makes sense to, given we can go and run practice laps there with the support of the president Kenneth Mankey, on a track similar to the size most of the tracks are that we will be competing on throughout the season.

We were quick right out of the blocks, and we are very pleased that all the hard work has set us up to go and be competitive straight up in a very tough category. We will race against Tristan who is Justin’s son and Victorian champion, and the likes of Kye Walters, Brad Wicks, Darcy Wilson, and Brody Chrystie to mention a few, all very tough competition here in Victoria.” Shared O’Donoghue.

Locally, racing could take the team to places like Mildura, Rushworth, Avalon, Moama, Warrnambool, Ballarat and Geelong amongst others through the season.

The team consists of Clinton Moore, Benny Wilson, Trevor Mills, Justin McGraw who they will get the benefit of support through the season and Billy’s family that includes Wife Kirsty, and his children Sway and Ruger. They are unsung heroes showing patience and support as everybody spent hours in the offseason away from home in the workshop as work on the car continued.
