Perth’s motoring enthusiasts will want to reserve the weekend of 29-30 October in their calendars for the inaugural Joondalup Festival of Motoring event. The two-day free event will transform the Joondalup CBD into a celebration of everything motoring with a thousand-odd vehicles on display across the weekend and 150 race cars taking part in the 2.5km street sprint. Family entertainment, art, a wide array of cuisine and local business involvement will also be featured in the event’s programme. I went to Wanneroo Raceway and volunteered at a test and tune day. While the only real incidents shown in the video was an oil spill, there was a recovery done later in the day which we didn’t capture on camera. Overall it was a quiet day for volunteering which is what they would say are the best ones! I have to say the day was so enjoyable and mad respect to them for what they do every weekend to let our competitors go racing! Crazed fan and ex state champion water polo competitor turned commentator Sean McCabe entered the commentary booth later than some of the youngsters that are coming up now but he’s managed to call racing at Wanneroo Raceway and the Perth Motorplex.
