Wangaratta City Raceway was the host venue for the Goulburn Ovens Sedans Victorian title on Saturday night (Jan 14th) with a healthy crowd enjoying the Carnival atmosphere around the facility as the local club continued to provide activities for families to bring their children to enjoy. In the on-track action Corowa based racer Justin Brockley won the Victorian title in the main event of the evening for the Goulburn Oven’s Sedans. Bairnsdale Speedway has been having a rough trot of it this season with serious accidents to competitors, and poor weather regardless of it being too wet or too hot affecting race meetings so far and this past Saturday the rain poured down on the track twice before any racing could get underway after track preparations whilst young Latrobe Valley racer Kaine Smith from the Junior Standard Saloons suffered a lower leg injury in a crash that ended the night for everybody as a major delay occurred waiting for the Ambulance to attend for a non-life threatening injury. Blue Ribbon Raceway’s mega weekend of racing across the 7th and 8th of January seen over one hundred and fifty different race cars compete in seven different classes finishing with an American winner, two next generation Horsham raised stars winning races and important series victories to many of the winners. Wangaratta Speedway Club’s community spirit resulted in a terrific night for the nearby Corowa-Rutherglen Speedway club who held their first meeting of the season at the Wangaratta Speedway whilst the Wahgunyah Speedway goes through a clean up after the Murray River channels around the speedway broke over the levy and flooded the track damaging equipment and making a mess of the soil, and track.
