Bairnsdale Speedway Association action on Saturday (February 25th) was once again terrific with a new Victorian Sprintcar champion determined in the thirty-five-lap final when local East Gippsland born and raised racer Nigel Laity stormed to the finish line in front of another local Andre Nielsen and Dennis Jones from the Latrobe Valley. Other winners on the night included Bobby Devine in the Division 2 Hot Rods, Elise Halliday in Ladies Standard Saloons and Victorian Standard Saloon champion Jacob Vuillermin in that classes feature event. Saturday night (February 25th) at Alexandra Speedway the hard working volunteers and officials with a contribution from determined competitors made the track raceable a second time after they waited for the rain to finish after it hit the area as qualifying races were almost finished. Track repreparation and packing allowed every class to continue on and have their finals. Redline Raceway finally began their 22/23 season of Speedway on Saturday night with a very full house of speedway starved Greater Ballarat fans and on a terrific show the four individuals that won their class of racing include Redline’s own member Jason Degoldi who won the Street Stock final, visiting East Gippsland based Sprintcar racer Adam Greenwood won his class, Dean Heseltine won the Australian Motor Contest Association class and Harry Cecil from Poowong won the Junior Standard Saloon class in their first ever appearance at Redline Raceway. Redline Raceway is all set to go this Saturday night to start their season after terrible weather seen cancellation of their first planned show a couple of weeks ago, this time Sprintcars and the Junior Standard Saloon Series headline the show along with competition from Street Stocks and the AMCA Nationals (Australian Motor Contest Association). Sprintcars competing are powered by CT 525 crate motors from the Chevrolets. In the second of its twilight Saturday race day shows this season Drouin Speedway fires up from 1pm until the early hours of the evening with a huge Crash and Bash and Dog leg racing event. Public knowledge shows that a traumatic and tragic racing accident occurred on Saturday (February 11th) that has resulted in the death of popular Standard Saloon competitor Stephen ‘Dougo’ Douglas just a few hours after he earlier won a heat race on his way to qualifying for the Chivers Memorial feature race. Nyora Raceway on Saturday night (11th February) attracted a huge crowd of motorsport fan’s when the All Star Sprintcars came into town for their annual show with a troupe of eighteen flyers and fans went home delighted when Brett Milburn from Somerville who had developed as a race driver at Nyora from a young age went on to take the feature race win. The Victorian Speedway Council Standard Saloon class makes its biggest appearance of the season at Daylesford Speedway this Saturday with the running of the Chivers Memorial honouring the father of David and the grandfather of Austin and Lachie who will all be competing in the race themselves along with a host of competitors from as far as Bairnsdale making the trip to compete. The Victorian Compact Speedcar Club hosted the ‘Ringwood Mazda’ Victorian Compact Speedcar title in partnership with Wangaratta Speedway Club on Saturday the 4th of February at Wangaratta City Raceway with over twenty entrants arriving at the track for competition, defending champion Justin Paull was unable to survive the tough competitive night with Victorian member drivers Trevor Perry, Michael Conway, Mark Cecil and Joe Lostich all figuring in the final result, whilst Queenslander Matt O’Neill drove away with the top spot spoils.
