The WA Sporting Car Club’s final race meet of the year is fast approaching and word out of the club is that the entry list is the biggest one for the year.
With entries closing at 4pm on Monday there is still time for competitors to enter either the main race meet in their category, or participate in the Rob Janney Memorial Trophy Time Challenge event.
Across the multiple categories / series running at the event on November 5th and 6th, a number of them have extremely tight championships where just one Did Not Finish, Did Not Start or poor showing could be the difference between a podium or not, or the championship, or not.
Here’s a run down of just a few of them in this situation.
IMPROVED PRODUCTION OVER 3000cc
Currently Michael Scorio sits on top of the points table here and by our calculations is untouchable, behind him however Lib Palermo if he has a bad race meet could be in trouble with John Callegari and Nik Mitic all vying for his second spot. Third spot is where it gets super interesting with John Callegari, Nik Mitic, Ashley Seisun and Mark Jolly only separated by 16 points, but in the unlikely event that none of these score points, Sue Palermo, Rachel Beers and Reuben Romkes are all within striking distance of that 3rd place.
HQ Holdens
Todd Forknall is currently ahead of Grand Ord by just 2 points with Dennis Russell and Phillip Breen also sitting 2 points apart but with a gap of 20 to Ord.
Troy Kent and Ryan Davis are sitting equal on 119 points which is going to definitely make a tight race for 2nd and 3rd and of course up to even first with just a 28 point spread.
Grant Thomson, Peter Marsh and Scott Hames are large outside shots to end up on the podium, but the points system and racing history says anything could happen.
Formula Vee 1200 and 1600
Franz Esterbauer currently leads the 1600 championship on 312 points, however behind him sits David Caisley and Mackenzie Matthews both within potential striking distance should Franz fall foul of the Motorsport Gods. Second place is a clear race between Caisley, Matthews and Vini Paduano.With Jason Fowler an outside chance to crash the party.
In the 1200 Championship Brett Scarey and Myles Lockett will fighting for first and second place. Callum Lamont will be defending his 3rd place against Connor Welsh, Allan Yeo and David Campbell.
Contempory Free Formula Race Car Championship
This one sees Lance Carwardine ahead of the pack at the moment with David Dearden only 7 points behind. Behind Dearden Daniel Gate is 10 points adrift with Simon Alderson and Neil Woodward another 50 roughly points behind.
Saloon Cars AU/VT Championship
Robert Marcon is ahead in the championship but hasn’t been seen at the last couple of race meets which has allowed the rest of the contendors to tighten up the points lead.
Currently on 258 points, 22 behind Marcon, Mason Harvey is looking to be the champion of 2022, however fellow young driver Chase Hoy is only 4 points behind Harvey and Mat Martin is only 2 points behind Hoy leaving a spread of just 6 points covering 2nd – 4th and 28 points covering 1st – 4th.
One person to not count out his multiple state champion Grant Johnson who currently sits 13 behind Martin and 41 behind Marcon who should luck finally shine on the champion after a very slow start to the 2022 season at CARCO.com.au Raceway.
Hyundai Excel Championship
Brett Sherriff is keeping a nice lead ahead of the pack. Harrison Douglas while 48 points behind Sheriff, he currently sits 42 points ahead of Jake Paassaris who has Nathan Biddle and Jackson Callo for company with an eye on the 3rd position.
With so many categories, sub classes etc we can’t possible fit them all into one article, we are excited to see what action this weekend brings at CARCO.com.au Raceway in Perth, Western Australia as the final round ends out the 6 round, 12 day WA Sporting Car Club championship.
