The Zappia name is on yet another trophy in Western Australia with Brodie Zappia taking out the WA Junior Dragster Championship at the Perth Motorplex.

The title fight came down to the very last meet of the season with bonus points on offer meaning Brodie could have potentially lost the top spot had he been unable to take a green light at the event.

The fight for 2nd was wide open for seven of the entrants with Lucas Green, Zara Board, Dylan Spadaro, Brock Moresby, Cooper Moresby, Angel Bakranich and Jett Martin all with a chance to pull off an upset given how close in points they all were.

In the eliminations Dylan Spadaro would get a bye setting him up for a run against Seth Jarvis after Seth beat Angel Bakranich. Tyler James beat out Lucas Green while the Moresby family had little luck on their side with both Brock and Cooper failing to get to the second round falling to Zara Board and Brodie Zappia respectively. Zappia would get a bit of a leg up getting a bye for his second round and proceeding straight to round 3 while Board dispatched Tyler James to head to the 3rd round.

Jett Martin and Tahlia Martin both got through to the second round for a Martin showdown after dispatching Lachlan Taylor and Isaac Adamos. Jett would ultimately face off against Zappia in the 3rd round of eliminations after beating Tahlia.

In the 3rd round of eliminations, Zara Board faced off with Seth Jarvis and put an 8.022 on the timing screen which was the exact time as Zappia would put up against Jett Martin.

In the lead-up to the final run, the commentators were wondering who, if either of them, would jump that little bit early, would it be the championship leader perhaps a bit too eager to cement his win? Or would it be the challenger wanting to get the best possible start against someone who was running similar times and dialed in a time 0.05 seconds faster in perhaps some mind games?

The answer: Zara Board by 0.018 seconds before green light handing the win to Brodie Zappia and securing his 2020/21 Championship with 890 points, Zara finished 2nd on 735 ahead of Lucas Green on 685.
