The WA Sporting Car Club has announced their 2022 Racing and Grassroots motorsports calendars featuring six race rounds with a two day duration each, thirteen Tarmac Sportz Series and eight Driftwest events.

The switch to two day duration events means that categories will have a chance to feature at every race meet rather than sit out events.

Two of the race meets have been designated as Night Masters events with the March and November slots keeping that honour.

Meanwhile the Tarmac Sportz series has renamed their "sprint" portion to "time attack" to perhaps make a bigger distinction between time challenge and sprint events. Time Attack will feature at the February and September Race meets.

Also joining the race meet calendar will be the Time Challenge category with events at the June, July and November race meets with the final designated as the Rob Janney Memorial Trophy event.

Point to Point and Hill Climb also make appearances in the 2022 calendar.

WASCC Competition and Events Committee Chair Justin Chaffey said there were several advantages to two day meets which prompted the Club to move completely to the format.

“The 2021 season was a mix and mash of both two day meets and one day which gave us greater insight into the pros and cons of both formats,” said Justin.

“We feel that two-day format presents something for everyone. For competitors, there is the greater spacing between Championship rounds, fewer clashes and the summer offseason is maintained.

“For our volunteer officials, it will mean shorter and more enjoyable days and with the club improving its camping facilities those wishing to camp will be able to take advantage of the social atmosphere in the downtime.

“As organisers, the advantage for us will be that the event preparation will be more efficient and cost effective.

“We’re looking forward to the 2022 racing season. The Club will be focused on delivering an improved atmosphere and experience for drivers, officials and motorsport fans.”

Drifters need not feel left out with the reinvigorated Driftwest events getting 8 events over the year with two of those at Jacks Hill. The Driftwest events allow drifters of all levels to get experience on the main track, skidpan and Jacks Hill run without any pressure of competition and are run in a safe environment.
