While the event isn’t part of the national TA2 calendar, the non-championship format hasn’t dulled the appeal. A 13-car field has signed on for the weekend showdown, boasting a mix of Supercars talent, speedway royalty, TA2 specialists, and a strong local contingent ready to take on the nation’s best.
Among the standout entries is Speedway legend Robbie Farr, who’ll pilot the #18 Chevrolet Camaro. Farr, who’s only just started his transition into circuit racing, sees this opportunity as a chance to reconnect with WA’s loyal motorsport fans.
“There’s huge support for me and for speedway in WA,” said Farr. “The fans here have always been incredible. I’m only just starting this flat-track journey, and it’s great to bring them along for the ride.”
Farr’s road racing resume is still taking shape, but he’s no stranger to success behind the wheel. After missing the recent TA2 event in Sydney due to prior commitments, Farr is eager to get back on track.
“These TA2 cars are great fun, and I’ve been itching to get back in the seat. It’s going to be wild.”
He’s not the only driver with Supercars ambitions in the field. Dunlop Super2 Series talents Jarrod Hughes and Ayrton Hodson are also confirmed. Hughes will run the #13 Ford Mustang, while Hodson — a Kiwi native — is back in the saddle of the #32 Mustang after a taste of TA2 competition at the Bathurst 6 Hour earlier this year.
“We raced with Ashley Jarvis Racing at Bathurst over Easter and had an absolute ball,” Hodson said. “When Ash rang and said, ‘Wanna do Perth?’ it was an easy yes.”
Hodson is chasing seat time in between Super2 commitments and sees the trip west as an ideal chance to stay sharp while learning a new circuit.
“Supercars is the goal, so I’m always looking to log more miles. Plus, the Perth layout looks like great fun — I’m really looking forward to it.”
Also lining up is Nathan Herne, one of the most decorated drivers in Trans Am and TA2 history. A two-time National Trans Am Champion and former TA2 Rookie of the Year, Herne brings a wealth of experience and pedigree to the grid. He’ll be driving the #129 Dodge Challenger, adding yet more firepower to an already formidable lineup.
Defending “King of the West” Brett Niall returns in the #54 Camaro after claiming top honours in 2022, when the event was last held as a two-round series across Wanneroo and Collie Motorplex. This year’s single-weekend format raises the stakes and compresses the action into just three days.
“The pace has stepped up since we last ran this event,” Niall admitted. “Looking at the names on the list, defending the title is going to be a real challenge — but that’s part of the appeal.”
For Niall, having the Kings of the West event embedded in a Supercars round is a big win.
“It’s fantastic to have this back in WA, especially as part of the Supercars weekend. The TA2 cars always put on a show, and I reckon the fans are going to love it.”
Joining the national stars are several well-known local names. Sprintcar standout Jason Pryde (#14 Camaro), former TA2 Western Series champion Ron Moller (#77 Camaro), and WA circuit racing regulars Peter George, Clint Rayner, Allan Letcher, and Jackson Callo will all represent the west against the interstate and international talent.
Rounding out the grid are experienced racers like Mark Crutcher (#4 Mustang), Graham Cheney (#50 Camaro), and Domain Ramsay (#71 Camaro), who bring both muscle and know-how to the fight.
The TA2 field will hit the track for a 20-minute practice session before moving into qualifying and four 20-minute races across the weekend. That’s nearly two hours of V8-powered action, all televised live via Kayo and Fox Sports.
In addition to the outright title, there’s also a Master Class award on the line for the highest point-scoring driver over the age of 45, further adding to the competitive spirit of the grid.
With no championship points to worry about, drivers are free to go all-out — and with this mix of raw power, rising stars, and racing legends, fans can expect plenty of side-by-side action and no shortage of fireworks.
