With temperatures forecast in the low 40s and with education in mind, a few members of the WA Speed Event Series arrived at the Collie Motorplex, south of Perth, early on Saturday 10th February.
With an overall goal of improving trainees’ lap times, increased knowledge of datalogging, understanding car setup, and track positioning for trainees, this initiative of Justin O’Hehir appears to have been a success: one member improved his personal best by 2 seconds!
With 4 instructors covering different types of competition (high turbo power, rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, multi-vehicle knowledge with instructor Geoff โDucky” Duckworth, and an instructor for data-logging, there was a ratio of one instructor to three students; lots of track-time.
High temperatures at the track (52deg recorded on the tarmac) would have prevented greater efforts from all. Indeed, the high heat after lunch appeared to minimise vehicle activity around the Collie circuit, with a few cars appearing to finish up early.
