The Perth Motorplex has hosted what many are already calling the best ever sprintcar race in its 23 year history. The 2023 Merger Contracting Sprintcar Muster Feature Race was on Round 2 of the 2023 Speedweek and featured competitors not only from Perth, but across Australia and from the USA.

Local hero Callum Williamson was aiming to keep the American’s at bay however Brad Sweet and Rico Abreu were intent on spoiling the party for the locals.

After lining up four abreast around the 0.5km length Motorplex speedway track behind the John Day Utes, a tradition held over from the fabled Claremont Speedway days, the cars settled in to their starting lineup two wide and got the green flag.

Callum Williamson jumped out to a huge lead and after a stoppage on the 5th lap when WA’s James Inglis and USA’s Brock Zearfoss came together. Both drivers would return to the track.

Chris Mitchell noted that in 2023 Zearfoss’ team had some issues with not being prepared for Zearfoss to come in and get the car back out after an incident, however this year they were on the ball and straight onto it with help from the Krikke Racing Team.

Further back Jason Kendrick who started at the back of the pack ended up climbing up into the top 10 by the end of the 8th lap.

What happens next, words can not do justice. Edge of your seat, butt clenching, “I hope that was a fart!”, heart attack inducing battles between Williamson, Sweet and Abreu with the mix of everyone from 9th to 24th being lapped with Gavin Migro, Karl Langdon, Matt Naulty, Dan Leach and Jason Crowe all bringing the excitement from the track to the screen perfectly.
