Bairnsdale Speedway beat the weather, crash however ends race night early

Bairnsdale Speedway has been having a rough trot of it this season with serious accidents to competitors, and poor weather regardless of it being too wet or too hot affecting race meetings so far and this past Saturday the rain poured down on the track twice before any racing could get underway after track preparations whilst young Latrobe Valley racer Kaine Smith from the Junior Standard Saloons suffered a lower leg injury in a crash that ended the night for everybody as a major delay occurred waiting for the Ambulance to attend for a non-life threatening injury.

Major events included the King of the Rock for the Limited Sportsman and the Bairnsdale Junior Standard Saloon series second round.

Limited Sportsman competitors from Horsham, Hamilton and Portland joined local Bairnsdale registered competitors for the King of the Rock and current Victorian and South Australian champion Jock Baker shared heat race wins with Andrew Wilson from Hamilton, and Darren Adams a Bairnsdale member before Baker was awarded the King of the Ring victory based on points after not being able to run their final. Baker defeated Andrew Wilson, Jock’s son Tommy Baker, Bowen Donkers, and Bayley Wilson.

Junior Standards completed four heat races on their way to their ‘Boost 2 Drive’ supported feature event. Blake Smith, Jack Stewart, Zac Barwise and Bree Walker won those races before the feature event got underway. Pre-event favourite Beau Stuchbery started back in the pack in eighth spot and front row starter Blake Smith took the lead and held it until lap eight where Stuchbery took over. A crash on lap ten to Kaine Smith ended the race and Stuchbery took the win from Blake Smith. Transponder results indicate Kaine Smith held his third position despite the crash with Tom Braz and Jack Stewart rounding out the top five.

In Ladies Standard Saloon racing where the competitors had their last opportunity to compete on the track where the Victorian title will be held, Tahlia Campbell would take two heat race wins and Kylie Lansdown from Koo Wee Rup her first ever heat race win. Campbell won the nights racing on points in front of Lansdown, Elize Halliday, Jo Richardson and Leticia Williams.

Bobby Devine won all three qualifying races in the Division 2 Hot Rods. Devine won the nights racing on points ahead of Ben Crittenden, Fraser Crittenden, Mario Agius and Alan Ward tying with Alan Sell for fifth.

Jack Yeomans, Andrew Cormack and Josh Thomas, won the heat races in Open Standard Saloon competition with Yeoman’s declared the nights winner ahead of Josh Thomas, Steven Dadswell, Andrew Cormack and Josh Cormack.

Bairnsdale Speedway Association will be back in action again on January the 28th with the Victorian Ladies Standard Saloon title the main event supported by Open Standard Saloons 500, Unlimited Sedans and SDAV Hot Rods.
