Featuring Formula Vee, Street Cars, IP, HQ Holdens, Excel Cup, Time Challenge, Formula Vee, Formula Ford, Free Formula, Historic Touring Cars and Saloon Cars, the final Collie round for the 2022 season has arrived.
Here’s how some of the categories are shaping up so far …
STREET CARS OUTRIGHT
Paul Kluck is sitting 66 points clear of Luke Streat at the moment. Despite the gap between those two, Luke Streat is sitting 3 points ahead of Drew Watkins and a further 5 points back to Stephen Taylor with Wayne Hastie another 13 points behind, so while one would expect Kluck to win the championship, the last three rounds will be cruicial for the top 5 to see who ends up on those podium steps.
FORMULA FORD STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Elliott Cleary is sitting 44 points ahead of Tomas Chapman who is 17 ahead of Benjamin Leslie who sits just 4 points ahead of Brock Brewer. Brock Brewer is currently sitting in a Leslie Jorgensen sandwich with Jack Sheldon looking to join the party. 17 points seperates the 4 drivers, but just 9 points splits Leslie, Brewer and Jorgensen.
HQ HOLDENS
Denniss Russell is currently leading the field of metal giants, sitting 42 points ahead of Phillip Breen. Breen has Todd Forknall 2 points behind and Grant Ord just another point behind him for company on the charge for the second step. Michael Howlett sits 42 points behind Ord.
FORMULA VEE 1600
Well it couldn’t get much tighter than this with Franz Esterbauer sitting on 324 points and David Caisley on 323 points. Showing up at every remaining round is now cruicial for these two with Mackenzie Matthews just 9 points behind Caisley. Matthews has a bit of breathing room with Jason Fowler 48 points behind.
HYUNDAI EXCEL
Brett Sheriff is 49 points ahead of young Jake Passaris who sits on 206 points. Behind him Harrison Douglas is on 186, Jackson Callo 164 and Jack Clohessy 160. Given the often tight racing between the Excels at Collie, it will be interesting to see who makes up points with dry conditions expected.
SPORTS CARS
Walter Epple is sitting 3 points ahead of Anthony Gard in this category of very, very expensive cars. Daniel Gonzalez sits 61 points adrift of the top two, but given his quick pace, including holding the lap record at Collie Motorplex, if he can maintain reliability he should be able to pick up some points and close that gab.
Last but not least is ..
SALOON CARS
A quick mention to Michael Koberstein in the EA/VN class who is a massive 158 points ahead of Shane Eather. 14 points seperate Eather, Matthew Jenkin and Reg Ralph.
The story over in the AU/VT is an interesting one. Grant Johnson is only 9 points ahead of team mate Matt Martin with Mason Harvey 11 points behind him and Chase Hoy 15 points back from there.Overall there is 100 points covering the top 8 and two key factors will come into play over the last three rounds. Reliability and consistency for all.
Now I know we haven’t covered every category and sub class and thats due to some having only one or two competitors, or a huge spread of points.
THESE CATEGORIES AND MORE RETURN TO THE RACE TRACK ON SATURDAY 20th and SUNDAY 21st AUGUST 2022
