With the arrival of more TA2 cars into Western Australia over the off season, the WA Sports Sedan and Sports Car grid is set for a sizeable increase in 2022. The category which features ex ย V8 Supercars, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches and much more always leaves the car fanatics drooling when they take to Wanneroo Raceway.
The TA2 contingent is getting stronger with an expected 9 cars to be out on the grid in the first half of the 2022 season. One notable entrant this year will be Brock Boley who has had some very close battles with Grant Johnson in the Saloon Cars category over the last few years but has stepped into the TA2 in hopes of campaigning it nationally, COVID-19 pending.
The category currently runs under a three division setup to ensure that points are awarded fairly fair across the category. There’s no point having it based on engine capacity as some of these cars can have lower capacity but higher output than their bigger engined brothers.
Division 1 is for cars that can do a lap of Wanneroo Raceway in under 58 seconds, Division 2 is for cars that can do a lap between 58 to under 64 seconds and finally Division 3 is for cars that lap at 64 seconds and over.
If you’re after the “big banger” racing where it appears money is a second thought, however let us just say, it is definitely a thought – especially when an ex V8 supercar slides between two Lamborghinis in a spin at Turn 7 – then the WA Sports Sedan and Sports Car category might just be for you.
This category is also one of the ones to feature at the Nightmaster series at Wanneroo Raceway and will be appearing at all six rounds this year of the WA Sporting Car Club championship, plus they will also be making the trek down to Collie Motorplex for two race meets in 2022.
Experienced racer Ron Moller who has competed in TA2 at national level heads up the association as President with Glen Brocklehurst as Treasurer. The committee members Peter Callo, Les Turpin, Water Epple, Richard Bloomfield and Brent Peters are all fierce competitors on the track and are looking forward to seeing the grid sizes increase.
The association has also announced that they have locked in returning sponsors ADH Golf & Utility Vehicles, Okey Dokey Produce, Swan Towing, Phils Trucks, Brian James Trailers and Diamond Capital Finance for the 2022 season.
