The D1WA drifting group returned to the Perth Motorplex on Sunday 20th June after a long hiatus from the venue.

The “King of the Motorplex” (or Queen) event saw drivers about to test their skills out during a relaxed practice session in the early parts of the day with a competition towards the latter parts of the day for those drivers that wanted to test their skills out in a competition environment, rather than the more relaxed practice sessions which run regularly by both D1WA and DriftWest.

During the practice stages of the day drivers were able to take out passengers with them which had many leaving the cars with wide eyes and big grins either caused by a nervous reaction, or by the pure enjoyment of what they had just experienced.

The long awaited Mitch Larner vs Luke Veersma battle looked set to finally happen but both competitors had their own issues to contend with which ruled them out. Veersma with steering issues after a hard knock and Larner breaking his diff.

Once the smoke, oil and Monster Energy drinks had settled, the top three results were:

1st place Scott Brown turbo LS R33

2nd place Mitch Larner LS R32

3rd Place Aidan Zykowski 2JZ S13

The D1WA team will next be out on track frying some tires on 11th July at Wanneroo Raceway for Round 2 of their championship.
