5.486 seconds is all it took for Andrew Katavatis to seal the BME WA Nitro Championship this year with his top speed 425.83. In a refreshing move he still slammed that “loud pedal” foot in hard and took off down the strip despite only needing to get the green flashing lights to finish on top in the championship.
Meanwhile Ian Brown may have undies that match his name after he red-lighted the start of his run and crossed the centre line coming within millimetres of John Zappia in their first elimination run. His reaction time of -0.038 seconds meant that his night was over before it began, however just past the snake pit things went awry with his car heading to the right lane and sending a centre marker flying while almost hitting Zappia.
Another one running with a heavy, early foot was Jarrod Maclean who bowed out in the first round of eliminations due to the competitive nature of the modified bike category. He stuck around to assist some other riders with both crewing for them and also doing some extra work throwing together some media reels for the drivers/riders. He has confirmed he will be back for the next season with some radical upgrades happening to the bike in the bike off.
Next up is the final night of the WA Drag Racing season for the 2020/2021 season. For the latest updates hit up Perth Motorplex’ website.
