Saturday brought a visitor to Phillip Island with rain joining in the action to give competitors at the 2021 Shannons Motorsport Australia Championship Round 1 something else to contend with.

Chaz Mostert took out the first heavily rain-soaked race in the Supercheap Auto TCR Championship with his fastest lap a whopping 2 seconds faster than anyone else on the track. Lee Holdsworth and Luke King battled for the second step and after being behind Holdsworth for 5 laps King finally made a move which left the third step up to a tussle between Holdsworth and JOhn Martin, however Martin wasn’t able to find a way past.

Tim Macrow picked up a single win in the dry in his S5000 while rookie 17-year-old Cooper Webster stunned the field and took the win in the wet leading from start to finish even under enormous pressure from Thomas Randle behind. Webster is the fourth winner in six races so far in the S5000 championship this year giving fans some close open-wheel racing they’ve been longing for with the V8 power.

Garth Tander and Yasser Shahin took out the first Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia race as reported previously.

Only one race run today for the Australian GTs as rain caused the postponing of the 2nd race until Sunday. Owen Kelly’s win was an epic fight with title rival and pole-sitter Aaron Seton going bumper to bumper all race, however Kelly maintained composure to seal the deal.

Action continues on Sunday….
