After shutting up shop early for the year in March due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Perth’s Kwinana Motorplex reopened for its first public event with a bang as a massive 630 runs down the drag strip, 20 burnouts and a fantastic turnout in the stands showing how much the diehard Whoop Ass fans have been missing their Wednesday fix of grassroots drag racing.
The official season opener for the Perth Motorplex drag and speedway calendar is on the 31st October with the Shannons Insurance Power Palooza.
In the meantime, Whoop Ass Wednesday‘s will give you your fix, as well as High Octane Photos with their awesome galleries.
If you’re not familiar with Whoop Ass Wednesday, on any given Wednesday between September and May, rev heads unite for the Formula Tech Performance Whoop Ass Wednesday event at Perth Motorplex in Kwinana, Western Australia which brings illegal street drag racing to a legal and safe environment.
Each week has a different theme such as car and bike brand nights, style of cars and more. There are some basic requirements for cars and bikes and all competitors must wear basic safety wear allowing this event to be open to pretty much anyone with a license.
The bonus of this kind of loose requirements to get racing off-street and legal? You can take a mate with you down the 1/4 mile!
Now that you’re all ready to go racing, your opponents are generally chosen at random, you might end up against a car that massively out-performs yours, or under-performs you, pot luck!
