The Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS) has today announced a revised 2020 calendar that will see the series travelling to four different venues across four states.
The AMRS commenced at Winton Raceway in March but was suspended a fortnight before the scheduled second round at Morgan Park Raceway, after Federal and State Government COVID-19 travel and social distancing restrictions made it impractical to hold circuit racing events.
However, the decline in virus transmission and easing of government restrictions has created a situation where AMRS management has been able to work towards a resumption of competition, which will take place at Winton Motor Raceway on 31 July to 2 August.
The series will then venture north to Sydney Motorsport Park on 25-27 September, before visiting Queensland Raceway on 23-25 October.
Australia’s newest racing facility, The Bend Motorsport Park, will host the 2020 AMRS season finale on 4-6 December.
AMRS Manager Matt Baragwanath said visiting a variety of racing circuits was a priority in planning the recommencement of the series.
“One of the core objectives of the AMRS has always been to offer our competitors a selection of venues and by travelling to four different racetracks for our final four rounds, we have been able to achieve that target,” Mr Baragwanath said.
“We’ve also been able to ensure there’s a decent break in between each round, which will minimise the logistical challenges for our drivers and categories.”
Mr Baragwanath said the rescheduled AMRS rounds will adhere to rigorous processes to minimise the risk of virus transmission.
“While it’s exciting to be able to go racing again, we acknowledge the continued need for social distancing,” he said.
“We’ll be complying with all government regulations and we understand that we may not be able to admit spectators to some or all of our 2020 events. Fortunately, we have a comprehensive media package so people can enjoy all the AMRS action from the comfort of their own homes.
“When we placed the AMRS into suspension, no one had any idea how long it would be until we could go motor-racing again – we were anticipating the possibility of not being able to hold any more events for the remainder of 2020.
“Thankfully, we’ve found ourselves in a position where we can resume our season sooner than expected, and we can’t wait to hit the track at Winton!”
The categories at each of the four remaining AMRS rounds will be announced shortly.
